In June 2018, I had the opportunity to learn about four of the seven Founder artists of Project Row Houses. It was a tremendous learning experience. With the help of Houston historians, we collected and shared their stories with the public. With the support of Project Row Houses, I helped to lead a public art tour featuring Houston's most prominent African American Artist.
This three-hour bus tour featured sculptures, paintings, and installations created by four Founding Artists of PRH. We visited 5 locations to lecture about each artist and their work. These stops included studio visits with the artists and a brief meet and greet.
Over four weeks in June 2018, Ryan Dennis, Art Director and Curator, and me (Jeanette Degollado), Public Art Coordinator for PRH, led the public art journey through Houston.
The featured Founding Artists were: Jesse Lott, Bert Samples, Floyd Newsum, and George Smith. For more information on the tour, please view the video above.
